Blackburn Monoplane
Built in 1912, put in storage in 1914 and not rediscovered until 1937 when it was found, by chance, largely concealed in a haystack. Richard Shuttleworth acquired it and started a long term restoration programma which was completed in 1949. Later, in 1988, the fabric covering was replaced following minor repairs to the airframe.
The Blackburn Monoplane is the oldest airworthy aircraft of British origin and, weather permitting, continues to fly on public display days at Old Warden Aerodrome. |
